…into the fuuuuture. (I know you just sang that in your head, right? You knew that was coming.)
So, last year was a whole new year for me in regard to work, which entailed a big change to my schedule. I went from a very static schedule to a very…irregular? yes, irregular schedule.
No week was the same, no day, no morning, or afternoon was ever the same.
Before 2021:
- Monday through Friday: Get up, hubby and I get kids ready for and to school, we both head to work, put in a full day, head home from work, get the kids, make dinner, family time, and take-care-of-the-house-and-everything-else-time.
- Saturdays: Try to sleep in a little, clean the house, take care of the yard, and family and friends time
- Sundays: Church, family, rest day
2021
- Sunday: Church, family, rest day
- Monday through Saturday:
Haha! I’m exaggerating but I felt that way sometimes because I was trying to get used to a whole new way of managing my time. Work and life are all in one basket now.
- Example: It’s 1 pm. A client just called me and wants to see a house; offers are due at 5pm. Let’s do this! We go see it at 3 pm, write and submit the offer. But I had planned to get groceries and some bookwork that afternoon before the kids got home from school–too bad! Priorities people. Priorities.
This roller-coaster of a career is a good fit for me in that regard. I found that actually love sporadic planning–I have never been real good with strict do-this-at-this-time-every-day/week schedules. I love my flexibility and can easily adjust to changing demands and priorities.
For much of the year I was very productive, but I also know that I probably wasted hours and hours because I couldn’t organize myself with my laundry list of home and work to-do’s: do I do laundry, make calls, write a blog, run errands, do bookwork, reach out to people, research homes, etc.?
I’m not talking about an inability to relax and take a break. I am talking about how it’s 2 in the afternoon and I felt like I am wandering aimlessly around the house with a million things to do and not sure where to start.
Welp…this year I am putting order to chaos!
I AM. I am. It’s happening. Here.
