Prepare Your Kids for Today’s Digital Culture

Thank you to everyone who came to the event presented by Protect Young Eyes.

Here are the takeaways from those who attended:

  • It is a good idea to talk with our kids about rules they would also like to see as far as screen use, so they are a part of the decision-making process
  • Consider buying the apps kids play so that they don’t see potentially inappropriate ads because ads don’t have to adhere to the same age-restricted content as the apps themselves
  • The biggest takeaway was for no one to have phones in their rooms, not even my husband and I, so we all have the same rules
  • I was happy to learn there is a router that can help filter out unwanted online content before it enters our home
  • It has made us think more about the rules we want to set with our electronics
  • One thing I learned was the secret part of Snapchat parents don’t know about
  • The dangers of having location turned on on our kid’s devices (which our 12-yr old did!) and the helpful tips for communicating info with our kids.
  • Michelle, the speaker, opened my eyes to see that living in a world of technology is not something to be feared. Especially when you use the helpful tools and steps that were given.
  • How to talk to our kids from a very young age about what they might see online
  • That we shouldn’t explode at our kids when they tell us they saw something inappropriate on an app or online…but make sure they know they can come to us with anything.
  • That we as parents need to really stay informed and educated on not only what our kids will be exposed to, but how to talk to them about all of this.

What Now?

This all can feel pretty overwhelming so what do we do now? I suggest visiting protectyoungeyes.com to:

  • Take a home internet safety assessment
  • Follow their social
  • See the resources page for tons of helpful…well…resources! (I bet you didn’t see that coming, eh?)
  • Learn about a router that will stop a lot of elicit content from coming through your Wifi
  • Sign up for their email
  • Read their blog posts
  • Check out their app with incredibly helpful content
  • Learn about more speaking opportunities and topics
  • And so much more

Thank you to everyone who came to this event and expressed interested

Do you know what the kids in your life are exposed to online?

Do you know how children are targeted in ways you and I could never imagine?

I don’t know about you, but this scares me. My husband and I want…no, need, to be able to trust our children online, educate them on the dangers they face, and help them stay safe.

But how? We have no idea!

If you are like us, then maybe you don’t either.

This is why we have invited the experts to educate us.

Won’t you take 90 minutes of your time to learn how to prepare your kids for today’s digital culture?
